The cold-blooded murder of two members of a Village Defence Committee (VDC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s (J&K’s) Kishtwar district on Thursday was widely condemned as a massive operation started to trace the killers on Friday.

Two members of a village defence committee (VDC) were kidnapped and killed by terrorists in the forest areas of J&K's Kishtwar district on Thursday, officials said. 

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday appointed Sat Sharma as president of its J&K unit, replacing Ravinder Raina. The decision was taken by BJP president J. P. Nadda and will come into force with immediate effect, party sources said.

Three terrorists were killed in a round-the-clock surveillance operation that started after a failed ambush attempt on an Army vehicle in the Battal area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor on October 28, the Army said on Tuesday.

The terror attack by Pakistan-based outfit The Resistance Front (TRF) in Jammu & Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Sunday claimed the lives of seven civilians. Among the victims was Shashi Abrol, a Jammu resident and tunnel designer working on the Gagangir-Sonamarg tunnel project to ensure an all-weather road between Srinagar and Sonamarg.

The 'festival of democracy' was at the height of its fervour in the third and final phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections on Tuesday as the turnout, at 65.46 per cent, crossed the figures of the earlier two rounds, even with an hour still to go before the close of polling.

Overall voter turnout of 11.6 per cent was recorded on Tuesday in the first two hours of polling in 40 constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir as large early voter turnout indicated a high percentage in the third and final phase of these polls.

A Pakistani terrorist and a J&K policeman were killed while two police officers were injured in the continuing anti-terrorist operation in J&K’s Kathua district, police said on Sunday.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Saturday that the prevailing peace on the Line of Control (LoC) is because of Pakistan's fear of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asserted that bullets will be answered with bullets, not dialogue, and that terrorism will not be allowed to re-emerge in Jammu and Kashmir.
