The overall flood situation in Tripura further improved on Sunday with the water receding in many places even as 1.17 lakh people are still sheltered in 525 relief camps in various districts, an official said.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday urged all political parties to come together to tackle the post-flood challenges ahead after the week-long catastrophic deluge which has massively impacted the state for the first time in over three decades, killing at least 24 people and damaging properties and crops worth of over Rs 15,000 crore.

In response to the floods caused by incessant rains in Tripura, the 1st Battalion National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been conducting a comprehensive flood rescue operation in the state since August 20 and evacuated 1479 people.

In a remarkable act of compassion and community spirit, members of the transgender community in Agartala have come forward to support flood victims, distributing essential commodities to those in need on Saturday.
