A senior police officer said that the arrest occurred in Morigaon district on Monday night and identified the accused as Babul Islam and Rubuluddin, residents of Titatala and Kacharibari areas, respectively.

In a petition filed by the Assam Wrestling Association (AWA) before the Gauhati High Court, AWA has accused the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) of not giving the state body affiliation even after a recommendation from the executive committee of WFI nine years ago.

In its petition, the Assam Wrestling Association claimed that despite recommendations made by the then WFI Executive Committee at the association's General Council meeting in UP's Gonda on November 15, 2014, it had been denied membership despite being entitled to it. 

Speaking at a public function, he said, "We have planned to build an underwater tunnel between Gohpur and Numaligarh through Brahmaputra. The estimated cost of the tunnel will be around Rs 6,000 crores."

However, Manipur and Mizoram were described as rain deficit by the Met department officials. The other four states in this region -- Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Sikkim -- witnessed normal rainfall.

The Assam Police seized narcotics worth at least Rs 25 crore in the international market and arrested five persons on charges of drug peddling, officials said on Friday.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday took an indirect jibe at previous governments in the state for not doing enough to educate the tea-garden community.

A BJP youth leader has been arrested in Assam's Sivasagar for allegedly thrashing a couple because they did not attend a rally of the party's National President J.P. Nadda held in the district on June 18.

According to a CBI officer, searches were conducted at 25 locations, including the accused's offices and residences across Assam, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, and Haryana, after the FIR was filed recently.
