Odisha Speaker Pramila Mallik on Thursday suspended BJP chief whip Mohan Charan Majhi and MLA Mukesh Mahaling for allegedly throwing daal (pulses) at the Speaker’s podium in the state assembly.

The EOW has arrested the head of STA Crypto Token namely Gurtej Sigh Sidhu (40), from Sri-Ganganagar, Rajasthan and its Odisha unit head Nirod Das. Sidhu is a native of Faridkot, Punjab and Nirod belongs to Bhadrak district of Odisha.

Two months have passed since the tragic triple train accident at Odisha’s Balasore district. However, 29 dead bodies recovered from the accident site are yet to be identified.   

The deceased has been identified as Sanchit Biswal of Subarnapur village under Kiakata police station in the district. The arrested are -- woman priest Ritanjali Bagh -- and her three sons -- Dibyaranjan, Soumyaranjan and Jyotiranjan.

Three days after the tragic triple train accident in Odisha's Balasore, it was revealed that the loco pilot and assistant loco pilot of Coromandel Express that met the severe accident on June 2 are alive, stable and under treatment.

The rescue operation in the Balasore triple train tragedy has been completed and injured passengers admitted to different hospitals as per their medical condition and many discharged also, but the major challenge before the Odisha government is the identification of dead bodies.

"There is a private narrow gauge rail line between Dungri Limestone Mines and the cement plant of ACC Bargarh. The line, wagons, loco all are private. It is in no way connected with the Indian Railways system," the statement clarified.

"Some of the bodies have been counted twice at the accident site and also in hospitals. So, after proper counting, the final death figure stood at 275," said Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena.

As per the instruction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who inspected the accident site on Saturday, restoration work was going on full swing and the restoration will be completed by Wednesday morning, the Minister informed.

Train communication has been snapped to Bhadrak and Balasore due to the accident. So, the family members can visit Bhubaneswar smoothly to find the bodies of loved ones, Chief Secretary P.K Jena said.

Speaking to the media at the Balasore Hospital after meeting the injured passengers, Modi said, "People of several states were travelling in these two trains and many of them have lost someone. It is a painful incident and it is very tough to imagine about those who lost their lives."

Nearly 18 hours after the massive train tragedy in Odisha's Balasore district, restoration work has begun at the accident site, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Saturday.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday morning visited the accident site and announced a detailed high-level inquiry will be conducted and an independent inquiry by the rail safety commissioner.

After technical team of the Railways suggested that was not possible to remove the coaches through cranes, the bogeys are cut down to remove the trapped passengers, he said, adding, that it will take another two to three hours to complete the rescue operation.
