In just the last six months, Assam has attracted investments of more than 11,000 crores of investments which will in turn generate around 12,000 jobs in the state, the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday.

A criminal complaint was filed against a woman Assam Police official on Sunday for allegedly abusing and imprisoning her domestic help for several days at her home and pouring boiling water on her.

The Superintendent of Police in Cachar, Numal Mahatta, told IANS, “Acting on a tip-off, an operation was conducted near the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Silchar in the wee hours of Wednesday. During the checking, 1.5 kg heroin was found kept hidden in 104 soap boxes in a vehicle.”

“During a check on the highway, narcotic substances suspected to be heroin were recovered from a vehicle. The drugs were kept hidden inside a few soap boxes within the vehicle,” a police officer said.

A woman has been sent to jail by a court in Assam for allegedly lodging a false complaint of rape, an official said on Sunday. The incident happened in Hailakandi district. 

The Assam Education Department has issued a showcause notice to the Principal of the Dhemaji Commerce College, Biren Chandra Konwar, after he was allegedly found in an intoxicated state in the college premises, an official said on Sunday.
