The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday published the final delimitation order for 19 Parliamentary and 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam. The total number of seats were kept intact in the delimitation exercise as notified by the ECI earlier in its draft proposal.

In a shocking incident, the body of a school teacher was found hanging from a tree in Guwahati's Khanapara area on Friday, police said. The deceased, Pranab Mili's body was found in the early morning hours by locals in the area who informed the police.

An 18 ft-long python was rescued by locals from a tea garden in Assam's Nagaon district on Thursday, officials said.nLocals in the Balijuri tea garden saw the huge python and promptly alerted forest officials and environmentalists.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday criticised the Congress, claiming the northeastern region was converted into a war-zone during the previous Congress-led regime.

Even as there is no bar for the teachers of colleges to join the student organisation Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the sudden upsurge in the numbers of joiners that include a few college principals in Assam has sparked a row in the state. 

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has authorised the empanelment of the IPS officers to hold posts in the Centre at the level indicated against their names, according to the official notification.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday lauded the efforts of the Central government for taking the initiative to re-develop 32 railway stations in the state under the 'Amrit Bharat Station' initiative which was launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.
