Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Monday said that talks on Naga political issues are going on with the Central government and the issue would definitely be resolved.

A day before Republic Day, four people, including two women, were injured in a bomb blast at Gandhi circle in Manipur's Ukhrul district on Wednesday, police said. A police spokesman said that the powerful blast also damaged a few cars parked in the area.

The erstwhile princely states of Tripura and Manipur were merged into the Indian Union in October 1949 and became full-fledged states on January 21, 1972. Meghalaya was part of Assam before becoming a full-fledged state on the same day.

The weeklong 'Iconic Events' being organised across the country began on Tuesday at the Indian National Army (INA) memorial in Manipur's Moirang to pay tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, whose 126th birth anniversary would be celebrated on January 23.

Addressing a public gathering at Moirang in Manipur's Bishnupur district, Shah said that terror activities have been tamed to a large extent in the northeastern states as several accords were signed with various militant outfits including the Bodo outfits.
 

The Union Cabinet has approved continuation of schemes of Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region with an outlay of Rs 12,882 crore, for the balance period of the 15th Finance Commission (2022-23 to 2025-26).

A senior Home Department official said that a total of 703 people including five chiefs of hill villages have been arrested and over 400 acres of poppy fields destroyed during the past six months.
