Amid boycotts and delays, the Punjab Assembly on Monday elected PML-N's Maryam Nawaz as the first female Chief Minister of the province and Pakistan, media reported.

PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif is set to become the Prime Minister of Pakistan while PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari is slated to be the President of the country, according to PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, Independent candidates have won 98 seats so far, with 22 seats still unclaimed. The majority of the Independents are affiliated to Khan’s PTI, CNN reported.

Claiming two-thirds majority in the Pakistan general elections, PTI founder Imran Khan, who is currently lodged in Adiala jail, delivered an AI generated "victory" speech.
