The Jammu and Kashmir Police have rescued at least 250 tourists, who were stuck in the Affarwat mountains after the Gulmarg Gondola car operations in North Kashmir's Baramulla district developed a technical fault, officials said on Friday.

Talking to reporters, Omar said, "We also have some self-respect and we won't beg before anybody to hold the elections here. Election is people's right and the Election Commission must answer this question," he said.

Sources said gunfight had erupted between the terrorists and the security forces during the search operation that followed the nightlong firing exchange between the hiding terrorists and the security forces.

"He was challenged by the troops but the intruder kept advancing towards the border fencing. The troops fired at him and shot him dead."
The BSF said no weapons were found on him.

An infiltration bid was foiled by alert security forces on Wednesday on the Line of Control (LoC) in J&K's Poonch district during which three terrorists were apprehended.

At least 10 people were killed and 55 others injured on Tuesday after a bus plunged into a deep gorge in Jammu district, police said. "The bus was carrying more passengers than the prescribed limit which will be probed during the investigation," he added.

Largest number of G20 delegates have registered for the three-day working group's meeting in J&K's Srinagar city although some countries are not coming for logistic reasons, the Union tourism secretary, Arvind Singh told reporters.

Roads lined up with G20 logos, smart city messages, painted sidewalks and freshly macadamised roads marked the road from Srinagar international airport to Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention (SKICC) Centre, the venue of G20 meeting in Srinagar city.

"The event will send a message across the globe about Kashmir's beauty and hospitality which ultimately will result in more tourist arrivals. We are hopeful that the successful G20 event will help give a big push to J&K's economy," the Lt Governor said.

According to the authorities, the 10 students have been rusticated for two months and were also debarred from attending classes till an inquiry report is received. The inquiry report ordered by the college has to be submitted within a week.

Earlier, a defence spokesman said, "There was an exchange of fire between militants and own troops. The Pakistan side tried to fly a quadcopter over the incident site, but on being fired at by the Indian side it quickly withdrew. A search operation is underway in the area".

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday interacted with deployed soldiers on ground in J&K's Rajouri district sending out a clear message that terrorists involved in killing of soldiers will be hunted down.

General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Army's Northern Command, Lt. General Upendra Dwivedi reviewed the ongoing anti-terror operation in J&K's Rajouri district in which one terrorist was killed on Saturday.

"In the ongoing operation in Rajouri sector, three soldiers who were critically injured in the morning have unfortunately succumbed to their injuries. The operation is still in progress," the Army said.

A policeman was injured when militants attacked security forces in J&K's Anantnag district on Thursday, police sources said. Police sources said that militants fired some shots towards a 'Naka' (checking) party of the security forces in Bijbehara town of Anantnag.

"As per inputs, the pilots had reported a technical fault to the Air Traffic Controller (ATC) and proceeded for a precautionary landing. Due to the undulating ground, undergrowth and unprepared landing area, the helicopter apparently made a hard landing.

As a major breakthrough in the recent terror attack case in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district where five Army soldiers were killed, security forces have traced and detained the local who provided shelter to the terrorists, official sources said.

Defence sources said that so far, 30 people have been detained for questioning in connection with the Bhata Dhurian attack in Poonch district in which 5 soldiers were killed and one was critically injured.

General officer commanding in chief (GoC-n-C) of army's northern command, Lt General Upendra Dwivedi, on Sunday assured that the Poonch terror attack perpetrators would soon face consequences.

Five Indian Army soldiers were charred to death on Thursday in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district after the vehicle in which they were travelling caught fire, a Defence spokesperson said.

Union Minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari said on Tuesday that once the ongoing work is completed on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, travel time will be reduced to just three hours.

"It is a 7.57 m high horseshoe-shaped single-tube, 2-lane tunnel, which will pass under the Zojila Pass in the Himalayas between Ganderbal in Kashmir and Drass town in Kargil district of Ladakh.

Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju escaped unhurt on Saturday after a truck hit his vehicle on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. "No one was injured in this incident," the police said.
