After Parliament gave nod to the grant of Scheduled Tribe status to the Pahari community in J&K, authorities on Wednesday imposed restrictions on Internet and mob gathering in Poonch and Rajouri districts.

Police said that the staffers of Police Station New Delhi have arrested the key conspirator of the terror module recently busted in Kupwara.

On January 25, 1990, four IAF personnel, including a Squadron Leader were killed, and 22 others injured in a firing incident in Rawalpora area of Srinagar city when they were waiting for the staff bus to report for the day’s duties.

One soldier was killed and two others injured on Thursday in a landmine explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in J&K’s Rajouri district.

Officials said that a landmine explosion took place along the LoC in the Nowshera sector of the district in which three soldiers were injured.

Addressing a media conference here, the DGP said, “As many as 76 terrorists, including 55 foreign terrorists, were killed in 42 operations om 2023. Also, 291 overground workers (OGWs) working for the terrorists were arrested while 89 terror modules were busted.

In the second such incident in a week, five people were killed on Thursday in a road accident on the Zojila Pass connecting the Kashmir Valley with the Ladakh region.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Minister Lal Singh has been arrested in a case of money laundering by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) after his anticipatory bail application was dismissed by an Anti-Corruption Court, an ED official said.

Two militants were killed on Wednesday in an encounter with the security forces in J&K’s Kulgam district. Officials said two militants have been killed in the encounter between the security forces and militants in Kujjar village of Kulgam district.

Commenting on the Kokernag encounter, the police chief said, “I know it is the handiwork of some vested interests to blow the Kokernag encounter out of proportion. It is always advantageous for those who open first fire during encounters. 

This breach of security has shocked the general public as it endangered the lives of patients at the hospital where patients are brought from all over the Valley with maternity issues in emergency.

LeT commander Uzair Khan has been killed and his body retrieved from the forested area at Kokernag in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district where an encounter between terrorists and security forces was raging on since last Wednesday, officials said on Tuesday.

At Kokernag in South Kashmir's Anantnag district, an intense gunbattle has been underway between the Pakistan-backed terrorists and security forces which entered the fifth day on Sunday.

A crime branch statement said that the economic offences wing of the crime branch in Jammu carried out searches at five places in R.S. Pura, Greater Kailash and Bidhnah areas of Jammu district. 

Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with other security forces, is fully alert and working in tandem to put an end to terrorism in the UT, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said on Thursday.

J&K DGP Dilbag Singh on Wednesday said that the properties of those local terrorists who are natives of the UT and have fled to Pakistan to take refuge would be seized.

Two terrorists were killed as security forces foiled an infiltration bid on the Line of Control (LoC) in J&K’s Poonch district on Wednesday, defence officials said.

The accident reportedly took place at Kiyari in Nyoma area, 150 km from Leh, late on Saturday afternoon when an Army truck, carrying 10 soldiers, skidded off the road and fell into a river, officials said.

Jammu and Kashmir police alongwith security forces busted two terror modules by arresting eight terrorist associates linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT and recovered incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition has been recovered from their possession.

Defence sources said that during the operation 'Machhal Prahaar II' in Kupwara district launched jointly by the Army, BSF and J&K Police from August 15 to 18 in Machhal sector, a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered.
