A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian Army was killed when alert soldiers foiled an infiltration bid on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's (J&K’s) Akhnoor sector, officials said on Saturday.

Five terrorists were reportedly trapped in two gunfights going on in Udhampur and Kishtwar districts of J&K on Wednesday, officials said.

Alert troops detected terrorist movement along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Khari Karmara area of J&K’s Poonch district on Thursday after which a firing exchange broke out between the soldiers and the terrorists and is still on, the Army said.

The inter-ministerial team of experts constituted under orders of Union Home Minister Amit Shah will arrive here on Sunday to visit Budhal village of Rajouri district to probe ‘mysterious deaths’. 

"The inauguration of the Jammu railway division is a historic milestone in the integration of J&K into the national railway network as also in the development of infrastructure and connectivity of J&K," he said.

A massive search operation continued on Monday in the forests of Jammu & Kashmir’s Kishtwar district to trace the terrorists responsible for the killing of a para commando during a gunfight in the Keshwan area on Sunday.

As a gunfight is already underway between the security forces and terrorists in Kashmir’s Srinagar district, another exchange of fire started on Sunday in Kishtwar district of Jammu division.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday appointed Sat Sharma as president of its J&K unit, replacing Ravinder Raina. The decision was taken by BJP president J. P. Nadda and will come into force with immediate effect, party sources said.

Three terrorists were killed in a round-the-clock surveillance operation that started after a failed ambush attempt on an Army vehicle in the Battal area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor on October 28, the Army said on Tuesday.
