Two terrorists were killed as security forces foiled an infiltration bid on the Line of Control (LoC) in J&K’s Poonch district on Wednesday, defence officials said.

The annual pilgrimage of Baba Shri Budha Amarnath also known as Baba Budha Amarnath Yatra began Friday with Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Mukesh Singh flagging off the first batch of 1,338 pilgrims from the Bhagwati Nagar Base camp in Jammu.

The youth claimed that the saint had asked him that all the shrines in Kashmir  of Sufi saints, including the most revered Hazratbal shrine, should be destroyed because Kashmiris were allegedly visiting these shrines more frequently, than going to mosques.

"In the intervening night of 24/25 July, the vigilant BSF troops neutralised a Pak smuggler while he was trying to smuggle Narcotics through Ramgarh border area," the BSF said.

The nearly 300-Km long Jammu-Srinagar highway is the lifeline of essential supplies to the landlocked Valley. All essential supplies including food grains, medicines, petroleum products, mutton and poultry products are brought into the Valley through this strategic highway.

Two persons were killed and one injured on Sunday when a landslide hit a bus in J&K's Doda district. Officials said that a bus was hit by a landslide in Gandoh village of the district.

Rescue teams of army, police and the state disaster response force were pressed into service immediately to locate the missing soldiers, but there has so far been no trace of them.

Situated at an elevation of 3,888 metres above sea level, the cave shrine houses an ice stalagmite structure called the holy ‘Lingam’ which symbolises mythical powers of Lord Shiva, according to the devotees.

He was addressing a security conclave here in which he said, “While we have controlled the problem of insurgency in Northeast, we have also been successful in controlling left wing extremism. 

“We are manufacturing various arms and ammunition. We are destroying the chain of funding of terrorists. The network of terrorism is being dismantled. Our stand on terrorism is tough.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Friday that the complete integration of J&K with the rest of the country through abrogation of Article 370 was the result of the supreme sacrifice given by Syama Prasad Mukherjee.

Sources said gunfight had erupted between the terrorists and the security forces during the search operation that followed the nightlong firing exchange between the hiding terrorists and the security forces.

"He was challenged by the troops but the intruder kept advancing towards the border fencing. The troops fired at him and shot him dead."
The BSF said no weapons were found on him.

An infiltration bid was foiled by alert security forces on Wednesday on the Line of Control (LoC) in J&K's Poonch district during which three terrorists were apprehended.

At least 10 people were killed and 55 others injured on Tuesday after a bus plunged into a deep gorge in Jammu district, police said. "The bus was carrying more passengers than the prescribed limit which will be probed during the investigation," he added.

According to the authorities, the 10 students have been rusticated for two months and were also debarred from attending classes till an inquiry report is received. The inquiry report ordered by the college has to be submitted within a week.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday interacted with deployed soldiers on ground in J&K's Rajouri district sending out a clear message that terrorists involved in killing of soldiers will be hunted down.

General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Army's Northern Command, Lt. General Upendra Dwivedi reviewed the ongoing anti-terror operation in J&K's Rajouri district in which one terrorist was killed on Saturday.

"In the ongoing operation in Rajouri sector, three soldiers who were critically injured in the morning have unfortunately succumbed to their injuries. The operation is still in progress," the Army said.

"As per inputs, the pilots had reported a technical fault to the Air Traffic Controller (ATC) and proceeded for a precautionary landing. Due to the undulating ground, undergrowth and unprepared landing area, the helicopter apparently made a hard landing.

As a major breakthrough in the recent terror attack case in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district where five Army soldiers were killed, security forces have traced and detained the local who provided shelter to the terrorists, official sources said.
