Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Lieutenant Governor (LG), Manoj Sinha on Monday visited the SKIMS Hospital in Srinagar city to ensure that the people injured in the Gagangir terrorist attack were given the best possible medical treatment.

Non-local skilled and semi-skilled labourers including masons, carpenters, paddy harvesters and others engaged in different labour-intensive occupations have been attacked by the terrorists in Kashmir Valley in the past.

“The draft of the resolution has been prepared and the Chief Minister will travel to New Delhi in a couple of days to hand over the draft of the resolution to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to restore statehood to J&K,” sources said.

As many as 19 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers were injured in a road accident in J&K's Budgam district on Thursday, officials said.

Two terrorists were killed and five security personnel, including a J&K Police official, injured in an encounter between security forces and the terrorists in J&K's Kulgam district on Saturday. 

The injured have been identified as Kulgam Additional Superintendent of Police Mumtaz Ali Bhatti, sepoy Mohan Sharma, sepoy Sohan Kumar, sepoy Yoginder and sepoy Mohammad Isran of the Rashtriya Rifles.

Officials said that after receiving specific intelligence inputs about the presence of a group of terrorists in Adigam village of the district, security forces, including the Army, police and the CRPF, started a CASO (Cordon and Search Operation) in the area.

J&K recorded 10.22 per cent voter turnout till 9 a.m. on Wednesday during the first two hours since the voting process started at 7 a.m. in the six districts.

J&K is gearing up for the second phase of the Assembly elections, covering 26 seats in six districts spread over both the Jammu region and the Kashmir Valley, on Wednesday as campaigning ended on Monday evening. 

Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi said on Monday in central Shalteng Assembly constituency of Srinagar district that his love and attachment for Kashmir were known to everyone and he does not need to repeat it. 

Enthusiastic voters, including entire families, mothers with infant children, and a near-centenarian, who has cast his ballot regularly since 1951, thronged polling booths in the first phase of the J&K Assembly elections on Wednesday, with the overall turnout logged at 50.65 per cent till 3 p.m. 

Security forces have recovered a huge quantity of ammunition and explosives in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, the Army said in a statement on Thursday.
