The accident reportedly took place at Kiyari in Nyoma area, 150 km from Leh, late on Saturday afternoon when an Army truck, carrying 10 soldiers, skidded off the road and fell into a river, officials said.

Jammu and Kashmir police alongwith security forces busted two terror modules by arresting eight terrorist associates linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT and recovered incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition has been recovered from their possession.

Defence sources said that during the operation 'Machhal Prahaar II' in Kupwara district launched jointly by the Army, BSF and J&K Police from August 15 to 18 in Machhal sector, a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered.

Former chief minister and regional National Conference (NC) vice president, Omar Abdullah said on Thursday that though judicial procedure is a long one, but he is hopeful that the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court hearing Article 370 issue would restore it.

Police said during their personal search, arms and ammunition including two Chinese Pistols, two Pistol Magazines, 14 live Pistol rounds and other incriminating materials have been recovered from their possession. 

The J-K Police on Wednesday said that the firing on two forest department employees had been done by the assailants using an AK-47 rifle unlikely to be used by timber smugglers as reported earlier.

“Both have been shifted to hospital where attending doctors described their condition as stable. The area has been cordoned off for searches,” the police said.

Over 20,000 performed the ongoing Amarnath Yatra on 17th day as another batch of 6,225 Yatris left Jammu for the Valley on Tuesday. Officials said since this year's Amarnath Yatra started on July 1, so far over 2.50 lakh pilgrims have performed the Yatra. 

The Jammu and Kashmir Police along with Army in a joint operation recovered two IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) from Wodhpura forest area of Handwara in North Kashmir, officials said on Monday.

Invoking Article 311 (2) of the Indian constitution, the J&K government on Monday dismissed three officers/employees from service, including the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of University of Kashmir.

“Of the five deaths, four occurred on the Pahalgam route while one was reported on the Baltal route. The victims included an ITBP officer who died during Yatra duty. The victims hailed from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Gujarat,” the officials added.

Jammu and Kashmir Peoples' Conference President Sajad Gani Lone on Tuesday said that one of the biggest challenges facing the institution of judiciary is how they deal with Article 370 cases, a party statement said.

"The arrested persons and others were planning to revive these organisations on the directions of Pakistan-based handlers. Their meeting was an overt attempt to start working for the revival of these moribund organisations," the J&K police said.
