Assam Rifles, which guards the 1643-km unfenced border with Myanmar along four northeastern states, on Monday in separate operations seized huge quantities of foreign cigarettes and drugs worth Rs 8.55 crore in Mizoram and Tripura, officials said.

Dey, who declined to comment about his decision to resign, said that as per procedure he submitted his resignation letter to both Chief Secretary J. K Sinha and Law Secretary Sanjoy Bhattacharjee.

Raising a politically significant issue, ruling BJP’s ally Tipra Motha Party (TMP) demanded to increase the tribal reserved seats from 20 to 25 in the 60-member Tripura assembly even as the tribals constitute one-third of the state’s around four million populations.   

In a press statement BSF said that on 10th November two Bangladeshi nationals was apprehended by BSF troops of BOP Tilabazar under Unakoti district while they were trying to infiltrate in Indian territory by negotiating the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB) fence.

In a recent breakthrough, the East Agartala Police Station arrested two robbers and they were found in possession of 10 stolen mobile phones. The arrests came following a complaint filed by Krishna Majumdar, a local resident of Maharajganj Bazar, who reported being robbed of his mobile phone while on his way home from the market.

In a statement Tripura Police said that in a significant operation, a raid was conducted at the residence of Raju Deb (50), in Ward No. 10, Dharmanagar, North Tripura. The raid led to the recovery of a 7.65 mm Russian-made pistol, one magazine, 10 live rounds, and two Android mobile phones.
