Jayanti Debbarma is the daughter of the former revenue minister and chief of the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) NC Debbarma. Jayanti contested from Asharambari Assembly Constituency from the ticket of IPFT but lost the election.

Later, after coming out from the oath-taking ceremony of TIPRA Motha MLA in Tripura Assembly, Pradyot said they are sitting in the opposition and they will have to work like a responsible opposition party.

TIPRA Motha Chairman Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma today has appointed a five-member team to evaluate the party’s performance in the recent Assembly elections and asked to submit a report within two months.

In a shocking incident a class V student on Wednesday sustained severe injuries after an explosion in an abandoned toilet of a school in Sepahijala district of the state. The incident triggered panic among the locals of Kalsimura Gram Panchayat area under Kalamcherra police station.

The recent assembly elections in the three northeastern states - Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland - has set the tone for next year's parliamentary elections with as the BJP has consolidated its position and the Congress trying to revive.

A jawan of Tripura State Rifles (TSR) has allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service riffle at Bishalgarh under Sepahijala district. The TSR jawan lost his life on the spot.

Amidst the ongoing post-poll violence in Tripura, an eight-member parliamentary team would visit the BJP-ruled state on Friday and Saturday to probe the incidents of political hostility and talk to the affected people.

The Chief Minister made this statement a day after the TIPRA Motha supremo Pradyot Manikya Deb Barman said that the Union Home Minister Amit Shah had assured him of an official appointment of an interlocutor to bring constitutional solution to his demand.
