Tripura ruling coalition member Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) has been holding seat-sharing talks with both current ally BJP and opposition Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) for the February 16 assembly polls.

The erstwhile princely states of Tripura and Manipur were merged into the Indian Union in October 1949 and became full-fledged states on January 21, 1972. Meghalaya was part of Assam before becoming a full-fledged state on the same day.

The Trinamool Congress on Saturday said it will contest alone in the upcoming assembly polls in the north-eastern state of Tripura and will field the party's own candidates in all the 60 assembly constituencies there.

Displaying banners and placards with 'My Vote, My Right', 'Stop Poll Violence', thousands of opposition Congress and Left Front leaders, members and workers took out the rally with thousands of national flags.

The Election Commission (EC) has issued a statutory notification for the February 16 elections to the 60-member Tripura Assembly inviting the candidates to submit their nomination papers from Saturday, officials said.
