In a sigh of relief for the job aspirants, who completed their JRBT Group D examination and have been waiting for the results, the state cabinet has decided to publish the results by September 8 next.

On Saturday, former Tipra Motha Chairman, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, called for strict action against those responsible for the vandalism of a Kali Maa idol in Ranirbazar, West District, which occurred on August 26.

Reacting to the severe disruption of lives caused by the recent floods in Tripura, Techno India University, Tripura (TIUT), took the initiative on Friday to visit a relief camp in the heavily affected Kakraban region of Udaipur Subdivision.

In a major breakthrough, the Assam Rifles in a joint operation with the Customs department seized 30,000 Methamphetamine tablets worth Rs 4.8 crore and arrested two drug peddlers from the outskirts of Agartala, officials said on Saturday. 

With a significant improvement in the overall flood situation in Tripura, around 86 per cent of the worst affected people who took shelter in 558 relief camps across the state, have returned to their homes since the last one week, an official said here on Friday.

Five Bangladeshi nationals, who after illegally entering India were working at a construction site in West Tripura, were arrested on Tuesday while neighbouring country currency was also recovered from them, police said.

After a week's closure due to flooding, all educational institutions in Tripura would reopen from Tuesday (August 27) except those schools which have been converted into relief camps, an official said on Monday.

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Monday thanked the Uttar Pradesh government for providing financial assistance of Rs 10 crore to Tripura in response to the floods in Tripura.

Train services in large parts of Tripura and some parts of Mizoram have been stopped for nearly a week now as the railway tracks were badly damaged due to the recent floods in the two northeastern states, officials said on Monday. 

The incident took place after the BSF troopers deployed along the bordering area detained the Bangladeshi nationals, while they were attempting to cross over to Indian Territory through the border fence.

The Tripura government has formally requested the Government of India to dispatch an advance Inter-Ministerial Central Team to assess the damage caused by the recent floods. This team will assist the state in preparing a detailed memorandum to seek additional support for restoration efforts from the Centre.
