Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Monday thanked the Uttar Pradesh government for providing financial assistance of Rs 10 crore to Tripura in response to the floods in Tripura.

Train services in large parts of Tripura and some parts of Mizoram have been stopped for nearly a week now as the railway tracks were badly damaged due to the recent floods in the two northeastern states, officials said on Monday. 

The incident took place after the BSF troopers deployed along the bordering area detained the Bangladeshi nationals, while they were attempting to cross over to Indian Territory through the border fence.

The Tripura government has formally requested the Government of India to dispatch an advance Inter-Ministerial Central Team to assess the damage caused by the recent floods. This team will assist the state in preparing a detailed memorandum to seek additional support for restoration efforts from the Centre.

A large contingent of Central and state forces has been deployed at Koitorabari in West Tripura district after tension gripped the area over the defacing of the idol at a local Kali temple by ‘unidentified miscreants’. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday once again assured Tripura Chief Minister of all support in dealing with the devastating floods, rains and landslides. 

Numerous women from different walks of life here on Sunday evening organised a rally to protest the brutal rape-murder of a woman doctor in Kolkata and the lynching of a government school teacher in Tripura.     

The overall flood situation in Tripura further improved on Sunday with the water receding in many places even as 1.17 lakh people are still sheltered in 525 relief camps in various districts, an official said.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday urged all political parties to come together to tackle the post-flood challenges ahead after the week-long catastrophic deluge which has massively impacted the state for the first time in over three decades, killing at least 24 people and damaging properties and crops worth of over Rs 15,000 crore.

As per BSF on 24th August on specific information 02 Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended in the area of BOP Niscintpur of West Tripura District while they were attempting to cross over to Indian Territory by negotiating the border fence.

Agriculture and Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Saturday said that the catastrophic flood in Tripura, which was ravaged extensively by the monsoon deluge for the first time in over three decades killed at least 26 people, damaged crops and electrical properties worth over Rs 707.41 crore as per preliminary assessments.
