Turkey has issued arrest warrants for 134 suspects involved in the faulty construction of buildings that collapsed in the earthquakes, Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said on Sunday.

As rescuers are racing against time to find more survivors in Turkey and Syria amid the harsh freezing temperatures, the death toll from the devastating earthquake that struck the two countries earlier this week has increased to 15,383 as of Thursday, according to authorities.

At least 326 people were killed and 1,042 others injured following the devastating earthquake in northwestern Syria on Monday, local media reported.

Hours after Monday morning's devastating 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck the Turkey-Syria border area, leaving at least 912 dead in Turkey and 326 in Syria, another powerful earthquake, of magnitude 7.5, was recorded in Turkey, reports said.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday sought reply from Centre on a 2010 'Gajah Report' recommendation on conferring statutory status to a proposed body National Elephant Conservation Authority (NECA) for the preservation of elephant corridors.

"After receiving information about the avalanche, a massive rescue operation was launched. Bodies of two persons killed by the avalanche were recovered while four persons were rescued alive.

Weather was cloudy in J&K during the last 24 hours but bright sunshine greeted J&K on Friday, bringing respite from inclement weather of last five days. Srinagar had 1.2, Pahalgam minus 4.3 and Gulmarg minus 8.6 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature today.

According to preliminary information, a number of houses were either destroyed or damaged in various parts of the two districts as a result of the earthquake, measuring 5.9 Richter scale, with its epicentre in Bajura district of western Nepal at 2.43 p.m. (local time).

In a tweet, the National Center for Seismology said: "Earthquake of Magnitude: 5.8, Occurred on 24-01-2023, 14:28:31 IST, Lat: 29.41 & Long: 81.68, Depth: 10 Km ,Location: Nepal."

Light rain and snow lashed J&K during the last 24 hours as the MeT office said on Friday that widespread light to moderate rain, snow is likely to continue.

Drass town in Ladakh region froze at minus 29 degree Celsius on Tuesday even as severe cold wave continued in the Valley, as per the MeT office. The 40-day long period of harsh winter capital known locally as 'Chillai Kalan' will end on January 30.

For the fifth consecutive day, Delhi saw cold wave conditions on Monday morning and a very dense fog with visibility to just 25 metres, hitting road, rail and air traffic movement.

The figures are scary enough to give a shock. In the past five days, 98 persons have died due to heart and brain stroke in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur. Of the 98 deaths, 44 died in the hospital while 54 patients died before treatment.

The national capital on Sunday recorded a minimum temperature of 1.9 degree Celsius at Safdarjung, while Aya Nagar had 2.6 and Lodhi Road registered 2.8 degree Celsius, as per the India Meteorological Department.

The National Center for Seismology, in a tweet, said that an earthquake of magnitude 5.9 occurred at 7.55 p.m. (IST) at latitude 36.39 degrees and longitude 70.66 degrees, at a depth of 200 km, at a point 79km south of Afghanistan's Fayzabad town.

At Lodhi Road, the Air Quality Index with PM 2.5 concentration was at 3o9 under the very poor category and the PM 10 stood at 184 under the moderate category. In Ayanagar the PM 2.5 was at 312, poor category while the PM 10 reached 186, in moderate category.

At minus 6.4 degrees Celsius on Thursday, Srinagar recorded the second lowest winter temperature in the last five years. In 2021, the minimum temperature had dropped to minus 8.8 in Srinagar on January 31.

On Tuesday morning, the national capital's Air Quality Index was recorded at 339 under the "very poor" category, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR).
