The flood situation in Tripura, which witnessed catastrophic monsoon deluge for the first time in over three decades, slightly improved on Friday but vast areas including human habitations in urban and rural areas, still inundated.

The recent floods in the state have caused extensive damage with losses in the agriculture and power sectors surpassing Rs 600 Crores. Power and Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath addressed the situation, detailing the impact on these vital sectors.

According to the latest daily disaster situation report by the country's National Disaster Response Coordination Centre under the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, nearly 4.4 million people were affected due to floods in 11 out of the country's total 64 districts, Xinhua news agency reported.

The Centre has approved the release of Rs 40 crore in advance to step up the relief efforts in flood-hit Tripura, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Friday.

As per BSF press release on 23rd August on specific information, 05 Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended in the area of BOP Lankamura of West Tripura District while they were attempting to cross over to Indian Territory by negotiating the border fence.

Amid reports in Bangladesh dailies that current flood situation in the neighbouring country has been caused by opening of the Dumbur dam upstream of the Gumti River in Tripura, India on Thursday pointed out that the flood is not because of release of water from Tripura dam.
