The Border Security Force (BSF) with the help of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) facilitated the return of 17 Indian workers who were stranded in the unrest-struck neighbouring nation of Bangladesh, an official said on Thursday.

The Tripura State Election Commission (SEC) officials said that 50 per cent of around 13 lakh electorate had exercised their franchise. There is no major incident of violence, except for a few minor ones and the voting was by and large peaceful in all the eight districts of the state, an SEC official said.

Border Security Force (BSF) Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting here on Wednesday to review border security preparedness, and discuss the ongoing law and order situation in Bangladesh and its implications on the security scenario, officials said.

Elections to the three-tier Gram Panchayats in Tripura will be held on August 8 under a tight security cover after the ruling BJP won 4,806 seats (70 per cent) of the total of 6,909 seats unopposed in gram panchayats, panchayat samitis and zilla parishads, State Election Commissioner (SEC) Saradindu Chaudhuri said on Wednesday.
