100960 farmers affected by untimely to be compensated: Minister Ratan Lal Nath

AGARTALA:

The state agriculture minister Ratan Lal Nath on Monday said that at least 100960 farmers across the state, who were affected by the untimely rain in previous years were considered for compensation.

A total compensation proposal of over Rs. 28 crore has been sent from the Department of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare to the State Revenue Department and the concerned insurance companies, the minister informed the second session of the winter assembly on Monday.

In response to the calling attention of the MLA Sudip Sarkar, the minister said that due to untimely rains in the state on November 16 to 18 and December 6 to 8, 2023, farmers' crops, especially paddy and vegetables, were damaged.

Officers and workers of the State Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare with the help of the panchayat immediately visited the affected areas and assessed the initial damage and brought it to the attention of the higher authorities and insurance companies, he added.
