Tripura along with the rest of the world on Friday observed the 10th International Day of Yoga in a befitting manner with the involvement of all walks of life including students of various schools and educational institutions.
The main event took place here at Agartala Hapania international fair ground, where Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha accompanied by the Chief Secretary J K Sinha, minister Shukla Charan Noatia, minister Tinku Roy, Padma Shri Dipa Karmakar and others practiced yoga exercise.
Stresing on the need of practicing yoga on a regular basis, the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi always spoke of 'One World, One Family and One Future' keeping in mind the country's culture and tradition and this is only through the practice of Yoga that the 'One World, One Family and One Future' can be achieved.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanded the observance of Yoga Day at the United Nations in 2014. The Prime Minister's thoughts were recognized by the United Nations and the need to practice yoga is recognized by the decision to celebrate June 21 as the International Yoga Day every year, Dr Saha said.
Meanwhile, an interactive session was also organized here at Hapania on Friday regarding the development of millet production and generates mass awareness about the consumption of millet. Chief Minister Dr Saha attended the event and said that moving in the direction of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government in Tripura initiated various schemes to increase millet production in the state.
In the event, Sports Minister Tinku Roy said that it is necessary to practice yoga regularly to keep the body and mind healthy. Realizing the importance of yoga in present times, the state government has included yoga in the Tripura Sports Policy, he said, adding that yoga has also been introduced in various schools and centers run by the sports department in the state.
