In a joint coordination of the officials of both India and Bangladesh, at least 12 Bangladeshi nationals including a minor girl, who entered India illegally were repatriated to their country on Tuesday through the Agartala-Akhaura check post.
Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh at Agartala Arif Mohammad said that one of the 12 Bangladeshi nationals is a minor girl, who was brought by their relatives to Tripura to perform domestic work six years ago. The minor along with others were repatriated to their country, he stated.
Briefing about the minor girl, Arif Mohammad said that the girl was tortured by her relatives in Tripura before she escaped from her employers’ home and went to the police seeking help. The girl was in a government home before Tuesday’s repatriation, he told reporters.
“The 11 other adults entered India illegally in search of jobs. After completing the legal and diplomatic formalities, they were handed over to the Bangladeshi officials and family members on Tuesday,” he said, adding that section of Bangladeshi and India nationals are illegally crossing the border by taking an advantage of some unfenced border areas and later they are being caught by the border guards of Bangladesh and India.
Indian and Bangladeshi officials, including Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) officials, were present at the Agartala-Akhaura check-post during the repatriation process.
