In a remarkable medical achievement, the specialist surgeons of Unakoti District Hospital successfully completed a breast tumor surgery for a 22-year-old woman from Bhagwan Nagar.
The woman had been experiencing breast pain and swelling for the past five to six months. After seeking help at the district hospital's outpatient department, doctors discovered three tumors in her left breast—one measuring 4 cm x 6 cm, diagnosed as fibroadenoma.
Upon referral to specialist surgeon Dr. Shubranil Das, the decision for urgent surgery was made. On September 3, Dr. Das, along with a dedicated medical team comprising Assistant General Surgeon Dr. Shreyshi Bandopadhyay, Anesthesiologist Dr. Rupamoy Das, Nurse Karuna Debbarma, and OT Technicians Mithun Malla and Surjeet Das, successfully removed all three tumors during an hour-long surgery. The patient made a steady recovery and was discharged on September 7, 2024.
This life-saving surgery was performed under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which ensured that the patient's family did not incur any costs, a significant relief considering the high expenses of such surgeries in larger hospitals like GBP or IGM Hospital in Agartala. The patient’s family expressed their deep gratitude to the hospital staff for the care and expertise they received at the district hospital.
This successful surgery highlights the crucial role of district hospitals in providing advanced medical care, particularly under government schemes, to patients from remote areas.
