The recruitment process of the 249 women warders for the correctional homes of the state are presently underway, said the secretary of the state Home (Jail) department Tapas Ray on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference here at the civil secretariat conference hall on Tuesday, the secretary said that the age limit for job application has been increased from 24 to 27 years by amending the recruitment policy so that more number of job aspirants can participate in the post of female warder.
At present there are 1,335 convicts in various correctional homes in the state and as part of the Azadi Ka Amrita Mohotsav and also as per the instructions of the Central Government, an initiative has been taken to release the convicts of the state who have completed 66 per cent of their sentence and are of good conduct on August 15, 2023, he told reporters adding that 5 such accused will be released next in two phases.
He said that the department is providing compensation to the victims of various crimes including rape, domestic violence under the Victim Compensation Act. 26 victims of various crimes including rape, domestic violence were compensated with Rs. 1.36 crore under the "Tripura Compensation Scheme for Women Victims-2018", he added.
