41st Agartala Book Fair began amid massive crowd; CM Dr. Manik Saha calls for mass reading practice

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday inaugurated the 41st Agartala Book Fair here at Agartala Hapania international ground and urged the student fraternity to go beyond textbooks so as to strengthen their power of thinking.

State tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Bangladesh MP Pran Gopal Datta, MLA Ramprasad Pal and MLA Meena Rani Sarkar among others were present in the programme on Friday.

Addressing the gathering on the first day of the book fair, the Chief Minister said that although the reading rate among students has decreased in the digital age, there is no substitute for books. He urged the students to buy books other than textbooks so as to strengthen their power of thinking.

Speaking at the event, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said that even though the demand for books has decreased in the digital era, the importance of reading books cannot be denied. Book fair plays a very key role in exchanging knowledge and ideas between writers, publishers, and readers.
