To commemorate the commencement of a new year for the Chakma community, the three days long 49th Biju Mela and Utsav will kick off from April 13 next here at Agartala Swami Vivekananda ground.
A preparatory meeting was held here in the conference hall of the West Tripura District Magistrate's office under the chairmanship of Industry and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma to successfully hold this fair and festival.
Deputy Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Manika Das Dutta, Biju Mela Development Society Chairman MLA Shambhulal Chakma, TTAADC MDC Bimal Chakma, and others were present in the preparatory meeting.
Minister Santana Chakma said that the special feature and tradition of the state of Tripura is the integration and development of the culture of the people of the state. Biju festival is one such traditional festival of the state. She called for active help and cooperation of the officials to conduct this festival attractively and beautifully for all.
In order to make the three-day long Biju fair and festival a success, a committee was formed, where Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has been made the chairman, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy and Animal Resource Development Minister Sudhanshu Das have been made vice-chairmen, AMC Mayor Deepak Majumder has been made the convener and Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta has been made the joint convener.
Besides, a 15-member executive committee was formed with Industry and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma as the chairman and Public Welfare Minister Bikas DebBarma as the vice chairman.
