Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday said that 87 investors from different parts of the country signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) promising to invest Rs 3,700 crore across different sectors, during the recent investors’ summit in Agartala.
After inaugurating and laying the foundation stones of 34 projects in Unakoti districts, the Chief Minister said that such investment proposals were never witnessed in Tripura earlier. Noting that in terms of GSDP, Tripura is now in the second position in the northeast region, Saha said that per-capita income has also increased substantially.
He further mentioned that many investors are coming to Tripura due to the transparent governance and peaceful environment in the state. The state government has been focusing on industrial growth through MSMEs, the Chief Minister said, adding that during his recent meeting with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, he assured that work on railway infrastructure would continue and confirmed that another railway track from Dharmanagar to Kailashahar would be developed soon.
“People have trusted us and given us (BJP) power for the second time. They have faith in us. Our government is working to solve problems, whereas the previous government used to create them,” he said. The Chief Minister said that the state's tallest 14-storey building, housing directorates of all departments under one roof, would come up at Gurkhabasti, on the outskirts of Agartala.
He informed that Rs 134 crore has been allocated for the high-rise buildings, a first of its kind in the northeastern region. “I want to remind them that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted the surgical strike (in Pakistan), the opposition also asked for proof. That’s why I say, that whenever we inaugurate any project, opposition leaders should come and witness the development. PM Modi has always said that without developing the northeast, India's overall development is not possible, and this work has already begun.”
Saha, former state BJP President, stated PM Modi before the 2018 Assembly elections said that if the BJP formed the government, he would implement the HIRA (highway, internet, railway and airway) model. The Prime Minister has delivered on that promise by strengthening internet connectivity, national highways, and railway infrastructure in Tripura. Airways have also seen significant development, he said.
Saha said that this is a real development, made possible by the double-engine government. Peace and good law and order are necessary for development, and since PM Modi came to power, several peace pacts have been signed, restoring peace in the northeast.
