A boost to tourism – Largest flower garden of NE India to come up in Tripura: Forest Minister

Aiming to enhance the state tourism sector, the Tripura government on Tuesday announced building of the largest flower garden in North East India.

Addressing a press conference in the conference hall of the civil secretariat, the state forest minister Animesh Debbarma said that the flower garden will be developed as a pilot project in East Takchaya ADC Village of Tulasikhar Forest Range in Khowai District of the State.

He expressed hope that this flower garden will be attractive to the tourists. Later such flower gardens will be developed in other districts of the state, he said, adding that as part of the Forest Festival 2024 programme, the Forest Department has decided to plant 5 lakh trees across the state on July 5.

Initiatives have been taken to include various institutions including schools, colleges, NGOs in this programme of tree plantation. In the implementation of this program in the month of July, free saplings will be distributed to schools, colleges and various institutions from the department, he added.

He said, “Forest Minister said that the need to cut trees for the expansion of roads and national highways in the state is being noticed. The forest department has decided to plant flowers and fruit trees on national highways, roadsides, to balance the environment as a result of felling of trees.”

He said that a plan has also been taken to construct a modern multi-utility hall in Baramura Eco Park. It has been decided to hold one cultural program every weekend at the stage located inside the Agartala Heritage Park. There are plans to build multi-utility central hall and aquarium at Nehru Park in Gurkhabasti, he told reporters.

The Department has taken special initiatives to develop the Sipahijala Sanctuary to modern standards. Initiatives have been taken to build eco-tourism by utilizing Atharomura and Jampui hills. He also said that a bunch of programs will be taken up in the livelihood of the people under the initiative of the Forest Department under the Externally Aided Project. About 300 crore rupees will be spent for this.

Meanwhile, the minister said that in an effort to address the persistent man-elephant conflict in Tripura, the state's Forest Department has announced a series of measures, including the development of underpasses for elephants at five locations along National Highway 8, which links Tripura to the rest of India via Assam.
