Admin warns shopkeepers to refrain from selling onion, potato at high price

AGARTALA:

The enforcement team of the Sadar District Magistrate and the state food department on Wednesday initiated a raid here at Agartala Maharajganj Bazar to check the high prices of onions and potatoes.

The officials enquired about the ongoing price of onions and potatoes in the market and warned the shopkeepers to refrain from selling edibles at high and abnormal prices.

One of the officials of the enforcement team said that the raid was conducted mainly to check the prices of onion and potatoes. He said that presently the wholesale rate of the onions ranged from Rs 65-68 per kilogram, where the retail price can be maximum of Rs 70-72. Meanwhile, the wholesale price of potatoes rests at Rs 31 per kilogram and hence the maximum retail price can be Rs 35.

The officials also said that in view of the high price of edible oil, the administration will look into the issue and tackle the price.
