The state transport minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday inaugurated the domestic air cargo terminal here at Agartala MBB Airport and said that the airport will soon receive the tag of international airport.
Addressing the event, the minister said that the government is working to transform the airport into an international airport. He underlined his recent visit to Delhi and said that he met the Union Civil Aviation Minister in Delhi recently and placed a series of demands.
“We are hopeful that the Union Minister will soon visit the state. Moreover, he also assured me that he will visit the abandoned Kailasahar airport with an eye to resume flight services from Kailasahar,” he added.
He said, “The Central Government has informed us that if we want an International or Immigration Airport, we must provide additional manpower from Tripura Police. Our government has decided to increase the manpower after a cabinet meeting.”
“Around 265 jawans of the CRPF will be deployed at this airport, and the declaration of MBB Airport as an Immigration Airport is not far away,” he said.
