In yet another boost to the connectivity of the Northeastern states of Tripura, the Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday flagged off Agartala-Mumbai Lokmanya Tilak weekly express train service from Agartala railway station.
Dr. Saha flagged off the rail service in the virtual presence of Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw and Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Chief Minister also inaugurated another DEMU train in Agartala-Sabroom section and a newly-installed escalator at Agartala railway station.
Addressing the flagging off ceremony of the new rail service, Dr. Saha thanked the Prime Minister and the Union Railway Minister for augmenting the rail connectivity in the state. He said that the new rail service will boost the connectivity in remote areas and give impetus to trade and tourism in the state.
The express train will depart from Agartala every Thursday at 6 AM and reach Lokmanya Tilak Station in Mumbai at 4:15 PM on Saturday. This express train will again depart from Mumbai at 7:50 am on Sunday and reach Agartala at 7:50 pm on Tuesday. The train will halt at a total of 7 stations between Agartala and Guwahati on this route, including Ambasa, Dharmanagar, Badarpur, New Haflong, Lumding, Hojai and Chaparmukh.
State transport minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik, MLA Minarani Sarkar and others were present in the function.
