The Agartala Smart City Limited has signed an agreement for a ₹116 crore project under the City Investments to Innovate, Integrate & Sustain 2.0 (CITIIS 2.0) initiative to enhance Integrated Solid Waste Management in the city.
The signing took place on March 3 in Jaipur during the Asia-Pacific RRR Regional Conference, in the presence of Union Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs Manohar Lal, along with senior officials including the Secretary of MoHUA, Joint Secretary of SBM(U), and Director of NIUA. Representing Tripura, Dr. Shailesh, Municipal Commissioner of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), Mission Director & CEO of Agartala Smart City Limited, and other key officials attended the event.
Agartala Smart City Limited celebrated the development on Facebook, calling it a significant milestone for Tripura’s urban sector.
"After competing with cities across India through a challenge-based selection process, which included proposal submissions and personal interviews of Smart City CEOs by an expert panel from the European Union and India, Agartala secured its place among 18 cities under CITIIS 2.0. The Rs 116 crore project will be implemented over the next two years to transform Agartala into one of the cleanest cities in India," the post read.
Additionally, a tripartite agreement was signed in March between the Urban Development Directorate, NIUA, and MoHUA, securing an Rs 5 crore grant for climate-resilient planning and the establishment of an Urban Climate Observatory.
