Monsoon season is ahead in the state and so AMC is active to protect the smart city from the stigma of flood, Mayor Dipak Majumder, Mayor-in-Council Member Tushar Kanti Bhattacharya, Municipal Council Commissioner Shailesh Kumar Yadav, Corporator Janhvi Das and other officials inspected the drainage system of Agartala on Thursday
Speaking on the issue, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder said that in order to improve the drainage system of Agartala city, AMC has started cleaning the canals using modern methods.
"Akhaura Canal is being cleaned using modern technology Cleaning work is being done at specific places by knowing about the condition of the canal through the camera. The government has been working since 2018 to free the residents of Agartala from the flood. The water of Agartala city passes through by Akhaura and Kalapaniya canals. Earlier this canal could not be cleaned properly because the drain was covered. Around 6 km stretch of Akhaura canal is covered. This time an initiative has been taken to identify the specific area of covered drains and clean them with an organization outside the state. This is done through cameras. They will be paid only after complete clearance", said Majumder.
He said that the cleaning work of Akhaura Canal is almost at the end.
"After that the Kalapaniya canal will be cleaned. Efforts are being made to keep the city free from flood. As a result of cleaning through this modern technology, the water drainage system will also improve. Similarly, it will be possible to save the city dwellers from mosquito infestation. So that there is no problem in working in the covered area, oxygen system has been provided for the protection of the cleaning workers" said Mayor
Mayor Majumder said that the covered part of drains in every ward of the city will be worked in this way.
