The Leader of Opposition Animesh Debbarma on Tuesday sought the intervention of the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha to disallow the delisting rally on December 25 as announced by the Janajati Suraksha Manch (JSM).
In his letter to the Chief Minister, Debbarma wrote, “I would request your intervention not to permit the rally in the broader interest of the State. Your immediate attention in this matter is highly appreciated.”
“Janajati Suraksha Manch planned a procession in Agartala on 25th December 2023, advocating for delisting of converted Tribals from the ST (Schedule Tribe) category. Christmas Day in Tripura is widely being celebrated by all communities, coincides with this event, raising concerns about potential disruptions to our State's peace,” the letter reads.
Earlier on Tuesday, the TIPRA Motha founder and royal scion-turned-politician Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Tuesday attacked the Janajati Suraksha Mancha (JSM), a tribal Hindutva body that called for a rally on Christmas this year demanding to de-list converted tribals from Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, and said efforts are being made to incite a Manipur-like conflict in Tripura over religion.
