A case has been lodged against an Assistant Returning Officer in Tripura for assaulting a presiding officer during the recent East Tripura Parliamentary Assembly election held on April 26. Additionally, a show cause notice has been served to BJP MLA Jadab Lal Nath for breaching the model code of conduct.
The District Election Officer (DEO) of North Tripura District issued a show cause notice to BJP MLA Jadab Lal Nath after he allegedly entered a polling booth in Bagbasa Assembly Constituency and behaved improperly with the Booth Level Officers (BLO), contravening Election Commission directives.
According to sources from the Chief Electoral Office (CEO), MLA Jadav Lal Nath entered polling booth No. 22 in Bagbasa Assembly Constituency during the polling for Tripura East (ST) Parliamentary Constituency on April 26, flouting Election Commission guidelines and causing disturbance to the BLOs stationed at the Voter Help Desk.
"After the incident, the North Tripura District Election Officer (District Magistrate and Collector, North Tripura) issued a show-cause notice to MLA Jadav Lal Nath for his actions," an official confirmed.
Furthermore, it was reported that Assistant Returning Officer Kajal Das and others were charged at the Kadamtala Police Station for an altercation that occurred at Booth No. 22 of the 55-Bagbasa assembly constituency during polling on April 26.
The Presiding Officer of Booth No. 22 had requested voters to queue up and receive tokens in accordance with the rules when Kajal Das, who was not a voter of that booth, and others allegedly assaulted the Presiding Officer.
In response, the Kadamtala police station initiated legal action against the accused Kajal Das, who has since appeared at the station for questioning. An investigation team, led by the Dharmanagar sub-divisional police officer, has been tasked with promptly concluding the investigation into this matter, as directed by the district police officer of North Tripura district.
