Bangladeshi held in Sonamura after living illegally

AGARTALA:

In a significant development, the Melaghar police station apprehended one Kamrul Mia, a 38-year-old Bangladeshi national residing in Tel Kajla Srimati in Sonamura for over eight years.

Acting on a tip-off, Tripura Police conducted an early morning raid, uncovering Mia's possession of fraudulent documents, including a fake Permanent Resident Tripura Certificate (PRTC) and birth certificate. Upon closer scrutiny, it was revealed that Kamrul Mia had altered his identity upon entering Tripura, changing his name to Hanif Mia on the forged PRTC. The fake birth certificate listed his parents as Bara Pather Chan Mia and Rehana Begum from Kalam Khet Gram Panchayat.

Investigations further disclosed that Kamrul Mia had been living under his assumed identity for an extended period.

Sources indicate that he had enlisted the help of Monir Hossain, an accomplice based at the border, who allegedly charged him between 60,000 to 70,000 rupees for facilitating the creation of these illegal documents. The Bangladeshi national is set to appear in the police court of Melaghar, where he will face charges related to the possession and use of fraudulent documents.
