Bangladeshi Mother-Daughter duo caught in Dharmanagar

AGARTALA:

Tripura Police apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals, including a minor girl, in the West Chandrapur area of Dharmanagar under North Tripura district, as they attempted to cross the international border back into Bangladesh after returning from Bangalore.

Acting on a tip-off, police detained the duo from the residence of one Nasir Ali in the area. “Based on secret information, we detained two Bangladeshi nationals, including a minor girl, from Nasir Ali’s house. However, five other individuals managed to flee the scene upon spotting the police,” said a senior police official.

The detainees were identified as Nazma, aged 35, and her minor daughter, both residents of Khulna, Bangladesh.

Police have registered a case against the two and initiated an investigation. During questioning, Nazma revealed that she had traveled from Bangalore by train and had paid ₹10,000 to a tout who promised to facilitate their illegal border crossing.

The authorities are continuing their efforts to trace the absconding suspects and the tout involved in the smuggling attempt.
