The state agriculture minister Ratan Lal Nath on Saturday inaugurated the state level Orange Festival at North Baramura Village office premises in Killa Block and said that the advanced scientific technique has increased orange production in the state.
Addressing the event the minister said that there is an ample scope of becoming self-reliant through orange cultivation. He encouraged for orange cultivation and said that the government is ready to assist the farmers.
Earlier orange production was more in Jampui but now more oranges are being produced in Killa, he said, adding that orange production has increased in the state as compared to the previous years due to the use of advanced technologies.
He said that the state government is working to enhance the socio-economic status of the farmers of the state through multiple welfare schemes.
“The state’s agriculture sector has gradually improved. Tripura's pineapple, jackfruit, lemon, tamarind, ginger, betel nut, turmeric are being exported to Dubai, England, Germany and Qatar,” he said, adding that initiatives will be taken to spread pesticides on orange trees using drones to protect orange trees from insects.
