The state finance minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Tuesday inaugurated the Gomati district level felicitation cum sensitization programme on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and workshop on Anaemia Mukta Bharat and said that the government has given priority on empowering women in Tripura.
Addressing the programme, the minister said, “Earlier, the girl child was considered a burden to the society. They were neglected. Female foetuses were killed. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Abhiyan to get out of this mindset.”
The Finance Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced various projects for the overall development of women. The government has given priority to empowering women in the state. He said, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao program is being implemented with great importance in our state.
“Now women are working successfully at all levels of the society. Gomati district is doing very well in eliminating gender disparity. It was possible with everyone's cooperation. Now the education rate of girls has increased,” he said, adding that the government is providing bicycles for girls to come to school.
Meanwhile, the minister said that at present, nearly 5 lakh women are associated with self-help groups in Tripura.
