Ending all speculations in wake of the February 16 assembly elections in Tripura, the ruling Bharatiya Jana Party (BJP) Saturday announced to continue its alliance with the IPFT party and rejected the TIPRA Motha’s ‘Greater Tipraland’.
Addressing a press conference here at a private run hotel in Agartala the Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said, “We have decided to continue our alliance with the IPFT party with the common minimum programme between the parties to remain unchanged.”
“The IPFT party will contest from five assembly constituencies of 12-Takarjala (ST), 24-Ramchandraghat (ST), 26-Asharambari constituency (ST), 38-Jolaibari (ST), and 60-Kanchanpur (ST),” Dr. Saha told reporters.
Meanwhile, the IPFT’s youth leader Shukla Charan Noatia, who remained present in the press conference on Saturday evening said, “Jayanti Debbarma will contest from the 26-Asharambari constituency (ST) constituency to replace her late father N C Debbarma.”
N C Debbarma allied his party with BJP in the 2018 assembly election and won 8 seats out of 9 which constituted 7.5% of the total votes polled.
However, with the five seats for the IPFT, the ruling BJP party is yet to declare candidates for rest seven seats for the ensuing assembly election. The BJP on Saturday declared candidates for 48 assembly constituencies.
