The Janjati Morcha, the tribal wing of Tripura’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has strongly criticized the Gana Mukti Parishad (GMP), the tribal wing of the opposition CPI(M), for accusing the government of neglecting indigenous communities. The BJP leaders dismissed the allegations as baseless and labeled GMP’s planned Raj Bhawan Abhiyan on January 9 as a futile exercise.
Addressing a press conference, Bidyut Debbarma, Vice President of BJP Janjati Morcha and a Member of the District Council, firmly defended the government’s record. “The Raj Bhawan Abhiyan by GMP is unnecessary and irrelevant. Since the BJP took charge in Tripura in 2018, the state has witnessed unprecedented development for the Janajati community. Achievements such as the CM Rubber Mission, resolution of the 23-year-long Bru issue, renaming Agartala Airport as Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, establishment of Eklavya Model Residential Schools, declaration of Aspirational Blocks, celebrating Maharaja Bir Bikram’s birth anniversary on August 19, and setting up the Tribal Research Institute are clear examples of progress,” Debbarma said.
He further added that under the BJP’s leadership, the central government has introduced several welfare schemes benefiting tribal communities, and many Janajati individuals have been honored with prestigious awards such as the Padma Shri.
Debbarma criticized the CPI(M) and Congress for failing to address tribal issues during their tenure. “Previous governments ignored the Janajati community’s welfare. BJP has not only worked for their development but has also respected their sentiments and heritage. Special packages have been sanctioned, and proposals have been submitted to grant more power to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC),” he said.
Dismissing the CPI(M)’s claims of inadequate development, joblessness, and lack of MNREGA work, Debbarma challenged the opposition to identify a single village without electricity under the current government. “If they can point out such issues, we will resolve them immediately. These false allegations are merely tactics to mislead the people,” he asserted.
The BJP Janjati Morcha reiterated its commitment to the welfare of Tripura’s indigenous people, emphasizing that the transformative changes since 2018 have brought hope and prosperity to the community.
