The former Chief Minister of Tripura and Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday landed here at Agartala to seek blessing from the people of the state and kick off his campaign for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.
Deb was nominated as the BJP candidate to contest from the West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency replacing the Union Minister of State for SJ&E Pratima Bhoumik.
Addressing a press conference at the state party office on Tuesday on his arrival, Deb said that he got the identity as chief minister, Rajya Sabha MP and now being named as the nominee of the party from the Tripura West Lok Sabha constituency is all because of the people of the state.
He said when he came to the state in 2015, BJP had a small team with no MLA, let alone big leaders. However, he said that he was lucky for being blessed by the people of the state to form the government in 2018.
Making an emotional appeal, he expressed hope that the people of the state will once again vote him to emerge victorious from his parliamentary seat.
He expressed gratitude to senior BJP leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving him an opportunity to contest from Tripura West LS seat.
BJP is yet to announce its candidate for the schedule tribe reserved East Tripura constituency.
