The Border Security Force (BSF) Director General Dr Sujoy Lal Thaosen, who landed in Tripura on Friday to review security and operational preparedness of the Tripura Frontiers on the Indo-Bangladesh border met the Regional Commander from Banglaesh’s Sarail region of Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) and discussed effective border management strategies here at Agartala-Akhaura Integrated Check Post.
The DG Thaosen landed at the MBB Airport accompanied by ADG (EC), Kolkata, Sonali Mishra on March 16. He paid a courtesy visit to Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, Chief Secretary J K Sinha and other senior officers.
During a “casual meeting” with the BGB officer, the BSF chief discussed various topics of mutual interest for effective border management, including measures to prevent drug and narcotics smuggling, a BSF PRO later informed in a statement.
During his interaction with BSF sentinels who are on duty along the Indo-Bangladesh international order to evaluate real-time problems in border domination faced by troops deployed on the ground, he lauded efforts in safeguarding the borders taken by the BSF troops in Tripura and to control crime on the border.
He visited the bordering areas Friday morning, Border Outpost ‘Dipak’ and an unfenced patch of the border at N C Nagar in Sepahijala district, where 1960 metre of international border is lying unfenced.
Tripura, which is surrounded by Bangladesh on three sides, shares an 856-km-long international border, parts of which are still unfenced in patches due to local disputes on land and demarcation-related issues.
He reviewed and monitored the progress of the ongoing single row fencing work in the area and addressed a Prahari Sammelan or interaction with the BSF officials and personnel at the BOP.
