The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully foiled a major narcotics smuggling attempt in the area of Border Outpost Ashabari, Sepahijala district, on Friday afternoon.
At approximately 1200 hours, BSF troops on duty observed a significant gathering of miscreants on both sides of the border fencing. Upon being challenged by the personnel, the miscreants adopted an aggressive stance and attempted to forcefully smuggle narcotics, significantly outnumbering the BSF troops.
In response, adhering to their non-lethal strategy, the BSF personnel fired a single round from a Pump Action Gun to disperse the miscreants, successfully preventing the smuggling attempt. A substantial quantity of narcotics and other contraband items was seized during the operation.
Amid the incident, one miscreant from Rahimpur village reportedly sustained a pellet injury due to BSF firing. His identity is currently being verified.
BSF officials have reiterated their commitment to maintaining strict vigilance along the border to curb smuggling and other trans-border crimes. The incident underscores the persistent challenges faced by security forces in tackling illicit activities along the international border.
Further investigation into the smuggling attempt and the identity of the injured individual is underway.
