Cannabis worth Rs 2 crore seized in Kumarghat

In yet another remarkable achievement, Tripura Police has made a significant seizure, intercepting a large cache of cannabis valued at Rs 2.25 crore in the Betcherra area, under the jurisdiction of Kumarghat Sub-division in Unakoti district.

Officer-in-Charge of Kumarghat Police Station, Sankar Saha, disclosed that they had received credible information regarding the smuggling of narcotics in a container truck.

“Upon receiving the information, we swiftly established a checkpoint and initiated vehicle inspections. Eventually, we detained a truck bearing the registration number AS-01MC0388, which was found suspiciously parked near the road in the Betcherra area. We transported the truck to the police station and upon opening it, we discovered and seized 1500 kgs of cannabis," stated the OC.

He further informed that the estimated market value of the seized cannabis amounts to approximately Rs 2.25 crores.

“Although no individuals were apprehended at the scene, efforts are currently underway to arrest the smuggler,”added the OC.
