The Union Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Electronics & IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Thursday launched ‘Heartland Tripura’ training programme here in a function at Agartala Rabindra Bhavan to offer skill development and employment opportunities to undergraduate students of the state, encompassing both engineering and non-engineering disciplines.
The skill development initiative is taken in collaboration with Deloitte and the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) in Agartala.
Addressing the programme, the Union Minister said that the Centre had laid emphasis to develop IT sector in the North East region of the country. He said, “There have been many changes in the country's economy in the last 7-8 years. As a result, various multinational companies are interested in investing in India. But for employment in these multinational companies, everyone needs to be educated as well as have expertise in any particular subject.”
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken initiatives to develop the IT sector in North Eastern states including Tripura like that of Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Gurgaon. Keeping this in mind, importance has been given to the development of the communication system and internet system in the North-Eastern region,” he said.
The ‘Heartland Tripura’ project will offer a tailored array of skill development certification courses delivered through NIELIT-Agartala.
On the other hand, the Union Minister of State for SJ&E Pratima Bhoumik said that youths of the state will get an opportunity to work in the IT sector through this program in the next few years.
Industry and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, Deloitte South Asia CEO Romal Shetty, Director of IIT Guwahati Lalit Sharma, Regional Head of NSDC Dr. Smita Chetia Talukdar and others were present in the programme.
