The Union Government has allocated ₹78 crores as part of the Fifteenth Finance Commission Grants for the financial year 2024–25, aimed at enhancing development work in the Rural Local Bodies (RLBs) of Tripura.
The grant includes ₹31.40 crores in untied funds and ₹47.10 crores in tied grants, both of which have been released as the first installment. These funds will benefit all 1,260 Rural Local Bodies, which encompass Traditional Local Bodies, the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), 40 Block Advisory Committees, and 587 Village Committees.
Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy expressed optimism regarding the impact of these grants, stating that they will significantly advance development efforts within the TTAADC. He noted that this funding comes under the provisions of the 15th Finance Commission, aimed at supporting various local development projects.
In addition to the central grants, the state government has already allocated ₹30 crores to the TTAADC from its budget to ensure that development initiatives proceed without hindrance. Despite facing challenges such as flooding, the state government has also announced dearness allowances and welfare measures for government employees and pensioners, along with support for the Tripura State Rifles and Tripura Police.
Minister Roy emphasized the longstanding demand for TTAADC development, highlighting that the recent financial support from the Centre will provide a substantial boost to the district council's initiatives. The Government of India, through the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the Ministry of Jal Shakti (Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation), recommends and releases the XV-FC grants to states, which are disbursed in two installments each financial year.
